The Bradford Economic Strategy, produced in 2007 by the Bradford Economic Partnership and Bradford Council sets out a vision for Bradford's economy to 2016, and highlights key priorities for action.

Firms lift the gloom with record business

Gloom-busting firms around the district are ignoring the economic blues.

Figures published last week suggest the UK is on the brink of an official recession. But according to Sandy Needham, chief executive of Bradford Chamber of Commerce, many local firms are staying resilient in the face of the economic downturn.

According to the mid-2006 population projections published by the Office for National Statistics (revised August 2007), Bradford's resident population stands at 491,000, making Bradford the 4th largest metropolitan district in England, and 5th largest in the UK.

Working age population (males aged 16-64, females ages 16-59) is 303,100.
